About

Private clarinet instruction is available from Wayne Toups, an experienced teacher and performer in the Anchorage area.

Retired from the Anchorage School District after twenty-one years as an elementary classroom music instructor and band director, I have extensive experience teaching privately and performing in Alaska for nearly 50 years.   A partial list of the groups with which I have performed are the Anchorage Opera, Anchorage Symphony Orchestra, Anchorage Concert Chorus, Alaska Chamber Singers, Anchorage Children’s Choir and the Alaska Festival of Music.

It is my goal to keep the learning experience positive and nurturing.  I am comfortable teaching students at any level from fourth grade through senior citizens.  Special emphasis is placed on Middle School and High School Solo and Ensemble, All-State Band audition preparation for High School students and Honor Band for Elementary School students.  This is, of course, in addition to working on musical skills and interpretation.  It is always up to the student to decide if they wish to participate in those events, but I feel it is my job to have them prepared to make that decision.  Many highly successful clarinet students have passed through my music studio.

My love of playing clarinet has been a central part of my life that has enriched it greatly.  Sharing that joy of making music with my students gives me great pleasure and adds meaning to my life.

Lessons are taught in my home during daytime and evenings in my convenient Eastside location or at a home in South Anchorage. Additionally, I use Zoom and FaceTime to teach remotely.   For further information please feel free to contact me at (907) 277-2157 or wtclarinet@gmail.com.
